I'm in the planning stage of my ministry education and trying to plot my 5 year career goals with the church, and I'm trying to discern between the Priesthood or the Professional Diaconate. With either position I plan to obtain my MDiv, but the ordination process for Deacon is much shorter and doesn't require a degree. The catch with some dioceses is that a professional deacon may not pursue Holy Orders for the Priesthood once declared a Deacon, but our Diocese is somewhat flexible on that matter, so down the road I may re-consider. I would like to hear from any Professional Deacons in the ECUSA and their experience/opinions.

    Blessings............Jeff+

I believe it's usually styled vocational diaconate. You should contact the Diocese of Albany office, we have a three-year diaconal training program. They might be willing to lend you some materials

Thank you. We have a very good program in our Diocese, I'm just curious to hear opinions of those serving in that capacity.

What do you feel called to? Being a minister of word and sacrament or word and service?

My gifts and talents fall more in line with diaconate duties, but I'm glad the door is always open to the Priesthood in our diocese. With either avenue I will be pursuing certified Chaplaincy training, and start working with my old partners in emergency service!

Lowly Layman, Do you think the clerical collar and the Glock will look good together? :D

Only if you beat the glock into a plough shear or a pruning hook.... :)
