In extremis baptism?

    Do I remember correctly that a layman can baptise an infant in extremis?

    you are correct. A layman can baptize if the infant is in danger of immediate death and clergy are not available. Or even if the infant is feared to die
    soon. If the infant lives, the baptism is valid. Though sometimes I have heard of parents asking for conditional baptism afterwards.

    In any event the baptism is recorded in Church records.
