So good people, I have an odd question. My daily prayer routine is basically Family Worship but I am not an us, I am an I, jut me. I want to close out worship by singing hymns but I feel really odd singing hymns in my apartment all by my lonesome. Does anyone, when their on their own sing hymns as part of their prayer routine or office? I have several great apps to sing psalms but I just feel weird. Any random thoughts are welcome plus any thoughts about family worship in the context of being a “single” are welcome too.

Nothing to stop you singing in the shower. Try comitting to memory and singing the Benedicite Omnia Opera to setting by Naylor in G.

    Sheet Music Here.

I have sometimes sung alone during private devotions, either hymns or canticles and I've tried chanting psalms. Some might say that private devotions are the only time I should sing.

I have a family but most of my praying is done alone. Singing hymns and chanting psalms is something I've come to enjoy doing more and more often lately. No reason not to!

I don't see why not. Many hymns are written in the first person anyway.

The Hymn Society raises some good points about why we should sing hymns:

I sometimes like to end the day with a plainsong setting of Compline.

As a church organist I usually run through my hymn selections for Sunday Mattins/HC at home on Saturday evening and sing along to those whilst I'm at the keyboard.

All of your posts are great and have inspired me to sing. Now my family worship will be proper, read/pray/sing. My poor, poor neighbors... I used to smoke cheap cigarettes I got from a Native American reservation, through the mail, You ought to hear my voice, or rather you ought not.

I sing and/or chant quite a bit. According to what kind of mood I'm in. I say go for it! :)
