I do know what a robot is. What my question refers to is the precise meaning of that word on this Forum. Today, I noticed the numbers of people currently on the Forum. It said there were, inter alia, 11 robots. Are these something to do with the Forum and monitoring it? Are they malicious actors trying to interfere? What are they?

Search engines (such as DuckDuckGo and Google) send out 'robot' scanners to look for changes in web pages, so the updated web pages can be indexed and searchers using the search engines can receive up-to-date results.

However, there may be at least one Dalek among the bunch. "Exterminate! Exterminate!"

Thank you, and not at all an answer I had anticipated.

Correct. The "robots" just refers to the technical term for scripts that scour the Internet, in order to update information.
