A decent article in First things about the recent Lambeth conference. The article basically recognizes what most of us here have already discussed: that the Anglican "Communion" is broken and has been for a long time now. The issue of what it means to be "Anglican" in a global context is still in flux. Here is probably the most important thing to take away from the piece: If we cannot agree on the Gospel, then we cannot have a Communion. The Gospel is the very bedrock of our identity; without a common understanding of it, there can be no common faith or public witness. The Word of God underpins our witness, our behavior, our practice, our prayers, our Worship. Therefore we cannot even in principle "come together in disagreement" -- it is a logical and theological impossibility.
