    Dear Friends,

    The Canadian Book of Alternative Services does well to provide a form to be used for the reception of episcopally-confirmed Christians into the Anglican Communion. It follows thus:

    "N., we recognize you as a member of the one holy catholic and apostolic Church, and we receive you into the fellowship of this Communion. God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, bless, preserve, and keep you. Amen."

    If anyone would like to showcase prayers of reception from the Communion, perhaps we can find something to unite around. We should definitely pray for anyone being received in the coming Ecclesiastical Year.

    The CofE form is very similar:

    N, we recognize you as a member of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church;
    and we receive you into the communion of the Church of England
    in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

    Complete CofE rite from Common Worship below. (This is for reception during Holy Communion but the rite can be adapted for Morning/Evening Prayer or other Service of the Word).

    Thank you Symphorian. It's interesting that the C. of E has its own full Rite for this event, whereas the Canadian church inserts the single prayer in the order for Confirmation. The candidate is received in one moment, after the Confirmation has taken place. The Canadian situation is providential, for if I was interrogated with this question on January 6, 2013...

    "Do you accept the teaching, discipline and authority of the Church of England (or Canada)?",

    ... I would have to say no, as its discipline involves things I believe to be contrary to scripture, tradition and reason.

    What ought a candidate do, whose only option for Christian conversion is the CofE, but who is convinced that the CofE has wrong opinion in some matter of discipline? He cannot perjure himself. Is the foundational requirement of assent, in the CofE, not its doctrine and creed, rather than its "discipline"?
