Currently in ECUSA.Diocese of Albany, one of the last holdouts for Scriptures. We are electing a new bishop this weekend. All candidates will allow same sex marriage (two joyfully, two grudgingly). I am starting to look for more Orthodox leaning faith. Reading and learning from this forum.

Welcome and good luck in your quest. After years of searching, I settled into life in the Anglican Catholic Church.

Bear in mind that you will never find on earth a doctrinally or praxis perfect church, within any denomination of Christianity, because no such thing has ever existed. The best have only ever just come close. For the moment wheat and darnel exist side by side in the visible church on earth.

Churches and denominations are all composed of people, some of whom have long since left this existence but may have influenced the doctrines and practices which the living ones continue to hold dear, just adhere to or are trying to re-introduce or introduce. The best you can hope for here on earth is to associate with a religious community of other people who are also trying, and hopefully succeeding in some measure at least, to follow the example set by Jesus of Nazareth during his life on earth and are relying upon HIS spirit guaranteeing 'continuing life' within themselves. Therein lies your and their salvation.

My advice is: Don't waste your time looking for a donomination of the faith sufficiently squeeky clean to satisfy your own exacting standards of perfect doctrine or praxis, just find a congregation that actually loves one another the way Christ loved us human beings and contine to learn with them how to follow HIS example.

On the other hand, if you stay where you'll continually hear things from the leadership that you know aren't right, it will fester and bug you until you don't feel like you belong. That's not good.

Hello and welcome to the Forum.

I would like to be able to assist you but I, unfortunately, can't. I would presume (not always wise) that the Diocese of Albany is in New York (state) in the USA. I live in the UK and don't know of any church there that would satisfy your requirements. I understand the ECUSA left the path of orthodoxy much earlier than the rest of Anglicanism.

I'm afraid I'd struggle to recommend a church to you here in the UK. I belong to a Church of England parish in the Catholic tradition where we try to follow the path of orthodoxy. Until quite recently our archdeacon was a homosexual who lived with her 'partner'. She's subsequently been promoted to a bishopric.

I pray you find what you seek.

More of a comment than a reply this:

Many in the parish I live in regard themselves as 'in the Catholic tradition' but believe in transubstatiation and venerate the mobilised or stationary contents of a monstrance from time to time, among other rather 'Roman' Catholic habits. I don't regard them as being even remotely following a path of orthodoxy though, considering they are doing it in a supposed Church of England building, considering the words of Article 28 and some others which are supposed, along with some creeds, to define our orthodoxy in the good old C of E.

What some people believe to be 'orthodoxy' can turn out to be merely superstitious and idolatrous religiosity when examined in the cold light of sanity. One might expect the judgment of 'believers' thus enthralled by such superstitions to be similarly impaired in questions of morality and ethics, thus often also being poor judges of other's conduct but nevertheless prone to being judgmental on scant actual evidence.

    End of comment.

In my experience what is often claimed to be ‘orthodoxy’ is in fact little more than revisionism with an inferiority complex.
