After many years of reading and exploring many different religions before making my way through the various denominations of the good shepherd's flock, I have decided to have the Anglican church be the vessel in which I learn and grow by Christ's example.

I'm a student of history, philosophy and the arts with an interest in photography and writing. I have little need or want for the trappings of modern life and choose to live a fairly drama free existence as I avoid social media and the news by spending a lot of time in nature.

Arguments, debates and grandstanding are of zero interest to me so that is not why I'm here. I am simply looking to learn more about Anglicanism with a view to being baptised next year, and continuing to better myself by following Christ's teachings.

I hope everyone is well and I look forward to having a good read of the forum in the morning over an obligatory coffee.

This week I saw a sign posted outside a church. It says,
"All I need today is Jesus
    and a little coffee"

    We
Welcome! Yes, I agree with you, social media is a money making racket which, personally, has had no benefit to me and many others.

Yes, it is, but the community uses the secular resources to make it more Christian? Just my thoughts.

I just try to choose the online resources that I can use, and avoid those that are just for gossip or useless activities. For example, I am on FaceBook, but I use a fake name and I use it only for accessing the marketplace, where I buy and sell things like pieces of furniture. I check the news headlines and then select what stories I think I worth reading, considering the sources. I use the Internet for research for my studies (I do post-graduate research), and can select resources and have my institution digitise them or post them to me. I connect with family via email (we don't use social media platforms for this). And I belong to a couple of forums like this, where I find interesting conversation.

I think the Internet is a fantastic resource if used appropriately. I am older and can't get around as much as I used to do, especially with the pandemic, so I am very grateful for online access.
