I have begun to collect a few books about English parish / country churches.

The first book in my collection.

Derry Brabbs, Introduction by Nigel Nicolson (1985). English Country Churches, first editions published in both Great Great Britain and America. 160 pages.

    Synopsis:

Shows and describes the historical background of more than one hundred picturesque churches in each region of England. Each entry includes colour photograph and short description of the church building.

    About the Author:
Derry Brabbs' professional career as a photographer spans nearly thirty years. He has worked on the worldwide best-seller James Herriot's Yorkshire, on seven books centred around the legendary author, Alfred Wainwright, and most recently on England's Heritage. He has also worked extensively with the Council for the Protection of Rural England.

    Second book in my collection.

Donald Sinden, with illustrations by Alfred Emanuel Fuller (1988). The English Country Church. First published in Great Britain by Sidgwick and Jackson, Ltd. Based upon the drawings in the sketchbook of Albert Emanuel Fuller, grandfather of Donald Sinden. No color photographs, just beautiful illustrations of a young boy and his grandfather visiting English Country Churches. 160 pages.

    Synopsis:

The popular British actor pays tribute to the heritage of country churches in a book that examines the variety and riches of church architecture and details the many often forgotten churches that adorn the countryside. The text is illustrated with artwork created by Sindon's own grandfather.

The illustrations in the sketchbook are monochrome. The Artist was colour blind. In a unique way this book brings the history alive.

    About the Author:
Donald Sinden is a popular British actor. He traveled with his grandfather making monochrome church illustrations. The illustrations are reproductions from his grandfather's sketchbook.

Lots of interesting facts about English country churches -- including the 1752 church tombstone of Mr. Fittleworth.

Includes "Further Reading" section in the back of the book.
