Besides the theological impossibility of same-sex "marriage" what really irritates me is a blatant and open disregard for the Constitution, Canons, Doctrine, and Discipline of the Episcopal Church by the Bishops of New York. If anyone should be put on disciplinary charges, it's these fools. http://toalltheworld.blogspot.com/2012/07/episcopal-diocese-of-new-york.html
Wow, I thought the Bishop of New York previously said he wouldn't allow it because it violates the 1979 BCP? Apparently, the "Intergrity" folks must have got a hold of him.
Diocese of New York actually has a history of extreme liberalism -- I remember that recently there were 3 churches in the D. of Albany which were unhappy with its orthodox views, and requested a theological oversight by D. of NY, which both bishops accepted. As soon as the arrangement was in force, the churches were quick to start performing same-sex blessings.
Are you referring to DEPO? If so, the three parishes are still under Albany canons and can't perform any SSB or even go to them. I love our canon on marriage: Celebration or Blessing of Marriages by Clergy 16.1 Members of the Clergy Resident in or Licensed to Serve in this Diocese shall neither officiate at, nor facilitate, nor participate in, any service, whether public or private, for the Celebration or Blessing of a Marriage or any other union except between one man and one woman. Unions other than those of one man and one woman in Holy Matrimony, even if they be recognized in other jurisdictions, shall be neither recognized nor blessed in this Diocese. Marriages on Church Property 16.2 Properties owned, controlled, managed, or operated by this Diocese, or any Parish of the Diocese, or any legal entity established by the Diocese or a parish of the Diocese, shall not be the site for any service, public or private, for the Celebration or Blessing of a Marriage or any other union except those between one man and one woman.
Right, those were the churches -- if nothing changed for them, then what was accomplished by switching 'theological oversight' to the D. of NY?
They want blessings but there is no way for them to canonically do it, so they just need the DEPO bishops to pat them on the back. DEPO really makes more sense for conservatives who are concerned with maintaining biblical orthodoxy or valid succession.
