    There has been an interesting debate on the Catholic Answers Forums about if she could have and/or she should have. I've been kind if wondering what you guys think.

    No I don't think she could. Interesting thing was most of the posters on CAF are American, the land of separation of Church and State, and most seemed to want Church to override democracy in this instance. Strange.

    She hasn't the legal authority any more. It would have provoked a constitutional crisis I think. And she wouldn't have interfered anyway.

    It is not that uncommon in America because we associate ourselves as a Christian Nation so as long as Christianity becomes the proper church at the extent of other beliefs then it is still separation some how. Yes I understand how confusing that is. Americans have what is called Cognitive Dissonance when it comes to separation of Church and State. Although I am sure someone can argueagainst that as I have seen done in the past.
