I have been searching for this painting for a long time and today I FINALLY found it!! I saw it a couple of years ago and it struck me. I have no idea who that Martyr is, who painted it, I know almost nothing about this painting but when I saw it, something in my heart was moved. The martyr clinging to the cross, embracing it so dearly. For years this image was engraved in my brain, to know truly where to rest my hopes, the Cross and only there... there is my salvation!

I pray it blesses you as much as it did to me.
If you have any thing to share please do and if you know something more about this particular painting I would love to know! Thank you :)

Yes, Seeker! What a moving picture!

The Cross allows us to love & rejoice again: no chains weighing us down! The Cross allows us to die without any fear, because it is to those outstretched arms of the God Man that we go. Let Satan's persecutions come! His sting is gone! His death is dead! Alleluia!

    Amen and Amen!!
Oh it so reminded me of the Easter sermon of St Chrysostom!

    A quote from it!
Let no one grieve being poor,
for the universal reign has been revealed.
Let no one lament persistent failings,
for forgiveness has risen from the grave.
    Let no one fear death,
for the death of our Saviour has set us free.
The Lord has destroyed death by enduring it.
The Lord vanquished hell when he descended into it.
The Lord put hell in turmoil even as it tasted of his flesh.
Isaiah foretold this when he said,
"You, O Hell, were placed in turmoil when he encountering you below."

Hard to believe that we - who, by rights, are God's enemies - have been reconciled to His Justice by His loving mercy! Praise the Lord. In the midst of our war against Him, He came down and said "no more!" and gave us life.

Whenever you walk by a tree, dear Christian, remember that the Lord of Life was draped upon a tree! Wood is so simple and common, yet God Himself walked with it upon His shoulders: a sign of our sin; and He was draped upon it: a death that we ought to have died. The Cross frees us, the Cross baptizes us in the blood of the Eternal Lamb! Let the whole Cosmos rejoice! IMMANUEL!

Scottish Monk: unspeakably beautiful tombstone. Thank you, brother.
