    I've had a couple of conversations with a Welsh man and there were a couple of dipthongs he habitually pronounced in a way I have never heard before.

    Then there's African English where the pieces are there but they've been assembled in a way that no Western speaker would go about the task. And the listener is never entirely sure if the tenses mean what he thinks they do.

    All the reconstructions I've heard of Shakespeare's English have sounded very West Country to me. Not quite pirate, but at least Gareth Keenan- or Mr Moulterd-level.
