    A Mother's Prayer at Childbirth

    Sun, moon, stars,
you that move in the heavens,
    hear this mother!
A new life has come among you.
Make its path smooth that it may reach the brow of the first hill.

    Winds, clouds, rain, mist,
all that move in the air,
    hear this mother!
A new life has come among you.
Make its path smooth that it may reach the brow of the second hill.

Hills, valleys, rivers, lakes, trees, grasses, all of the earth,
    hear this mother!
A new life has come among you.
Make it's path smooth and it may reach the brow of the third hill.

Birds that fly in the air,
animals that dwell in the forest,
insects that creep in the grasses and burrow in the ground,
    hear this mother!
A new life has come among you.
Make its pad smooth that it may reach the brow of the fourth hill.

All the heavens, air and earth,
    hear this mother!
A new life has come among you.
Make it path smooth--then shall it travel beyond the fourth hills

Suzanne Slesin and Emily Gwathmey, compilers, Amen, n.p.

If my lips could sing as many songs
as there are waves in the sea:
if my tongue could sing as many hymns as there are ocean billows:
if my mouth filled with the whole firmament with praise:
    if my face
shone like the sun and moon together:
    if my hands
were to hover in the sky like powerful eagles and my feet
    ran across mountains as swiftly
    as the deer;
all that would not be enough
    to pay you fitting tribute,
    O Lord my God

    Lord, teach me patience
    Lord, teach me humility
Lord, may I be content and show gratitude for all you have given me
    Lord, forgive my pride
Lord, show mercy on me for my ignorance and stubborn ways
Lord, thank you for the love and fellowship of my fellow Christians
Lord, please watch over those Christians who are persecuted for their faith
With the Holy Spirit and through Christ Our Lord, I pray that you bring peace to this broken world
    Amen

May the power of your love,
    Fiery and sweet as honey,
    Wean our hearts
    From all that is evil.
Grant us to die for the love of your love,
You who were so good as to die
For the love of our love.

Judaism prescribes a blessing to be recited after going to the bathroom.

“Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, who formed man with wisdom and created within him many openings and many hollow spaces. It is obvious and known before Your Seat of Honor that if even one of them would be opened, or if even one of them would be sealed, it would be impossible to survive and to stand before You even for one hour. Blessed are You, Adonai, who heals all flesh and acts wondrously.”
