Read this last night... https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...bles-to-clarify-popes-denial-that-hell-exists I know some universalists who'd say he's half right. lol
The Vatican issued a statement saying it's a false claim because the interviewer wasn't talking notes or anything, therefore, he cannot properly claim what the pope said. That was according to another website I was reading though and I just skimmed the article.
Very weak response imo. They did not disavow the statement, nor the content of the statement. They did not state what the Pope's true opinions are on the subject of hell or the immortality of the soul. They merely stated that this was not on the record and is quoted from the interviewer's memory and could be a misquote...that's not a denial.
Eugenio Scalfari, right... the Italian atheist? Didn't he give him like five other interviews prior to this And didn't that guy "take him out of context" in prior interviews saying things like, women should be priests, gay marriage can be a blessing.... and he keeps going back to him, now saying "there is no hell"
My heart aches for my beloved Church. It becomes increasingly apparent that the future depends upon a remnant of the Churches faithful to uphold and promote orthodoxy.
I'm honestly fairly shocked this tabloid level drivel has made the rounds it has. It's amazing what people will package as news nowadays.
Its easy to believe because Francis has become noted for his unorthodoxy. Goodness knows what he actually said, but this would be consistent with his pattern of thinking.
I tried debating this with a hard core catholic. He tried his best, but it was basically a circular reasoning, for he kept saying "well he didn't have quotes!" I think most Catholics know deep down that Pope Francis is heretical, they just fear admitting that the Church, especially the Pope, can be wrong.
