Ontario Court of Appeal disallows challenge to ‘no-Catholic’ monarch laws

The Ontario Court of Appeal has ruled that Bryan Teskey has no standing to challenge a law that bars Catholics from becoming our monarch

TORONTO—Ontario’s top court says a Roman Catholic man can’t challenge a royal succession law that he says discriminates against his religion.

Bryan Teskey tried to ask the courts to strike down a rule prohibiting Catholics from ascending to the throne, arguing it violates the charter. But the Court of Appeal for Ontario upheld a lower-court decision, ruling that the succession rules are not subject to charter scrutiny and that Teskey had no standing to bring the challenge.

Was there really nothing more productive that he could have been doing?

 

One has to ask themselves why would you bother in the first place... Now if you where someone in line to the throne and decided to convert to the Roman Church it might be worthwhile. Some people obviously have a lot of time and money at their disposal.

 

I don't think the reasons are so obscure as that. This is clearly the case of a republican trying to throw a wrench into the system.

 

I wonder if Bryan Teskey is also concerned about the Roman catholic Canon law that says children of an R/C must be brought up as Roman Catholics. Doesn't this descriminate against any other Religion that his wife may have.

 

We should remember also, that English law doesn't forbid a ,,catholic ,'to sit on the throne. That at the very least is a mistake! It forbids a member of Roman Church to do so because of papal interference in English or later U.K. Politics even to the extent of calling on the Monarchs of Europe to invade England i.e. the Armada. We talk of ,'the Armada,' but there were several armadas, though only two were feared. The papacy tried to instigate both Civil War and
an invasion of England for no other reason than to please the Robber Council of Trent, indeed through the attempted assassination attempt of James I and the whole of the English Establishment, Anglican or Romanist, they very nearly led to England becoming simply a province of Spain.
