http://archbishop-cranmer.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/the-ethical-church-bank-of-england.html Thoughts? I must say I can't remember anything so novel being proposed in goodness' knows how long. Yet is it for the Church to be involved in the matters of this saeculum? IT's not explicitly evangelistic, but it is laying down something that might actually have an effect upon the structural realities that govern our paltry existences- almost seems fitting in a country where the Anglican Church is so wedded to a vision of parochial ministry with emphasis on history, place etc.
Unfortunately, the priorities of the Church of England are messed up. The Church exists to proclaim the gospel, not to acquire banks. At least learn with the bad example of the Vatican Bank.
The Church Commissioners have money, from the investments of which they pay for stuff like clergy, mission etc. You know, minor stuff, nothing to do with proclaiming the gospel. How should they invest this money? Tobacco companies? Oil companies? Or perhaps in establishing an ethical bank? Well, do we need an ethical bank? Yes. So how is that being messed up, again?
