John Paul II close to sainthood in RC Church

    There will be other links no doubt. I find myself wondering about this. Do they consider miracles as a channelling of God via the saint? JP II was a charismatic figure no doubt, but also a conservative reactionary. I guess as an Anglican it isn't that important, but still.

    I did hear that to get balance, John XXIII might also be canonised. A far better choice!

    I almost hesitate to say this, but I think that there is an unhealthy attachment to popes that develops among Catholics. A sort of cult of personality has arisen around some of them. John XXIII and John Paul II were incredibly influential. I'm not sure, though, if their canonization is due to an actual desire to acknowledge their heavenly status, or whether it is driven by more earthly concerns. I guess it's their Church, and they'll play by their rules.
