I did a fair amount of extra reading for sermon prep over the last couple of days. I revisited Anselm's Cur Deus Homo and read Athenagoras of Athens' treatise "On the Resurrection of the Body."

    What a Capital Idea - Australia 1770-1901 - Dr Chris Reynolds 2023.

It is interesting, though I am not sure about it, it does seem in many ways to be a kickback against some of the contemporary, and dare I say woke, retelling of Australian History. If you never read anything that challenges you, then you are putting some limits on growth.

The Easter barbecue? In Argentina, the fasting of Holy Week is broken with a giant barbecue, very Argentine. After the meal, desserts, and then lots of mate.

Australians are a bit gunshy about making great claims, but we still call Australia Home. We are however quite keen on beef and malbec!, so we have more in common than our countries start with the same letter.

I bought my kids a book that I also found quite interesting. I don't have it nearby to get the title but it profiles about 40 school children from around the world, what their school is like, what their day is like, and where they live.

I'm reading "The Trinity Evidence and Issues" by Robert Morey. It's a 580 Pg. tomb. Morey seems to be an Ultra Fundamentalist, and takes as his brief that the Trinity is true and as a result various other things should also be true, which is fair enough as far as it goes.
After so far reading about a third of his book I of course have a few issues with his book.
He seems anti evolution and says (pg70)
"The importance of God as Maker of heaven and earth cannot be under emphasized. This is why the theory of evolution is the main weapon in the atheist's arsenal. If evolution is true, then the God of the bible is false. It is either one way or the other."

Of course many Christians can accommodate evolution and the Bible.

He is also prone to making grand statements which take a lot of "faith" to believe. Such as on pg 15.

"The point is that, if we begin with God as our a priori , we can deduce from this that the universe will exist in a certain way as opposed to existing another way or not at all. And, when we examine the universe, lo and behold it is exactly the kind of universe that we deduced that "must be" in order for God's existence " to be what it is.""

Does anyone here swallow that story?

Morey also chucks off at Mormons, JWs, and atheists for their alleged inconsistencies but on Pg. 60 he says

"We expect to find that when the triune God of the Bible is viewed in terms of Being, all three persons are co-equal in all things"

Hello I thought how does this tie in with my "why doesn't Jesus know when he will return" question when God the father does?

This is referenced in the Bible in Matt 24:36 and Mk 13:32. Now Morey has a scriptural index in his book, so off to look up Matt 24:36-nothing,-but Mk 13:32 is referenced to pg.294 where Morey says

"The doctrine of the humanity of Jesus the Christ means he was limited like any other mortal man, ie in the ways that we are limited. For example just as we cannot do miacles by our own power(Acts 3:12) niether could He (Jn 5:30)."

Mk 13:32 is referenced on the same page as an example of Jesus' humanity.
But this hardly makes the three persons co-equal in all things, or explain how how could forgive sins.

I’m trying to read Richard Hooker, but the 400+ year language gap is tough. I have found a modern language version. I may get that.

The Benedict Option by Rod Dreher | a strategy for Christians in a post-Christian nation.

This an interesting and radically conservative book, written in the context of the USA. A friend lent it to me, and it took me a while to attack it, but now that I have I am finding it quite interesting and indeed helpful.

I am back to reading "Simply Anglican" again. I was prompted by our new priest to reread it and then have a discussion with him over it. I intend to do just that.
