The Catholic Church doesn't exist to be 'Cool'. It exists in a stone cold sobersided spirit devoid, humourless, rigor mortis, stasis. Mrs Beamish rules. :biglaugh:

I love the song. There's a couple of lyrics in the printed version that seem a bit suspect

"His name is Kerley Single and he wants the hymns sung quicker" is actually "His name is Ken, he's single and he wants the hymns sung quicker"

"Flora Hurd" is "Thora Hird". She was a comedy actress and Christian commentator on BBC UK Religious services.
"Harry Secum" is "Harry Secombe" A singing comedian, good tenor voice, sung on Religious BBC programs.

More importantly he was Ned Seagoon!

AKA Neddy. Thought of and more often seen by Gryptype Thynn as a 'Charlie'.

Stalwart I suppose you mistakenly expected people in a church to be worshipping God. Well that is not what they are for now. Have you not received the last edict from the politburo? Wearing vestments and dancing in the sanctuary to contemporary secular music is the thing to do now. Perhaps your priest is not 'cool' and is some old fuddy-duddy. Get a petition up to get rid of him and then you, too, could have a trendy priest in your parish. :wicked:

If you don't think there was substantive worship before this embarrassing performance, then why do you suppose these people still visit church every Sunday? I can promise you they certainly didn't show up to watch whatever that was.

That assumes that only some of the Roman Catholic clergy are going down this strange path. many lay Catholics are happy to follow the same path and, indeed, some of them are at the front of the line.

What are they supposed to be doing? Like, what even was their intention?

Was that supposed to be some part of RC liturgy nowadays? Looked more like yoga or something.

It's the "I'm more important than God brigade" who must put on a show rather than worship the Almighty.

    David danced before the Lord.

I'm inclined to think this would not be appropriate during a service but OK at the end as it is apparently being done here. In our church we used to have a Holy Zucchini at the end of the service; basically a squashed circle where we all held hands for the dismissal.

The Ethiopian Orthodox have a long established tradition of liturgical dance. Of course, it is markedly different than what you see at snake handling churches. Do you guys have snake handlers in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, etc? Or is that a distinctly American form of Pentecostal practice.

Um- no, because there are no snakes in NZ a feature we share with Ireland. Maybe St Patrick hopped into his currach and took a holiday down under.:D

No snakes? None whatsoever? That is an incredible feat. How did you folks manage to get rid of all the politicians, anyway?

Plenty of snakes but I've never heard of snake handlers here, probably because we've got some really deadly ones.
