I am in the wilderness and want to add a few resources to my personal library on Anglo Catholic Church Life (formats: book, audio, and Internet).

    Please advise.

The Practice of Religion by Archibald Campbell Knowles. One of the Continuing Anglican publishing houses still has it in print, although I don't recall which one.

Looking for suggestions about which Bible translations are used by Anglo-Catholic churches.

    Lowly Layman,

I finally got around to doing a little research on your suggestion of The Catholic Religion by Vernon Staley.

I did a thumb-thru of the google books link you provided. It did not take me too long (60 minutes or so) to decide that I wanted to see if I could find a copy for my personal library. Among the book's outstanding merits, the Preface to this book by Rev. T. T. Carter is excellent.

At Amazon, I decided to purchase The Catholic Religion by Vernon Staley in a Kindle version ($6.99). As I age (gracefully, I hope) I am finding that my aging eyes appreciate reading some books in large type. With Kindle versions, I find that I can easily adjust the type size to a very nice giant size.

Thank you, once again, for your recommendation of this book.

Yesterday, I received my copy of The Practice of Religion (Rev. A. C. Knowles, 1911). Since then I have been reading bits and pieces of this standard for Anglo Catholicism. One bit about true joy can be read in my signature.

    My copy came from
Anglican Diocese of the Eastern U.S.
    deusapa@gmail.com

This is a small book, measuring 4.25" width x 5.75" height x 0.90" thick. The type is small, 8 pt or less. The binding is new, tight, red in color with gold letters on the outside cover. This book easily fits into the palm of your hand.

I look forward to spending time with this publication in the days and months ahead.

Found a link to this online edition of John Mason Neale: A Memoir, by Eleanor A. Towle (1906, University of California Libraries, 380 pages, illustrated with index).

    Online Anglican Breviary

The Anglican edition of the Divine Office translated into English, used especially by Anglicans of Anglo-Catholic churchmanship. It is based on the Roman Breviary, as it existed prior to both the Second Vatican Council and the 1955 liturgical reforms of Pope Pius III.

    Keyed to current dates.

Anglo-Catholicism: What it is Not and What it is
Paper by Rev. Walter Herbert Stowe
Rector of Christ Church, New Brunswick, New Jersey
    London: Church Literature Association, 1932
    Online at Project Canterbury

    Conclusion

When all is said and done, Anglo-Catholicism is a vigorous, virile movement which has profoundly affected the Anglican Communion. It was never so strong as it is to-day. It is definite in faith and practice, yet flexible in secondary matters. It has unbroken continuity with the Holy Catholic Church of the past, yet is awake to modern needs. It has respect for authority and love for liberty. Provincial in origin, it has attained a world-wide outlook and status.

"Vigorous and virile" makes Anglo-Catholicism sound a bit racy!

So, I assume the cross symbols are where I cross myself, but what do the asterisks mean?

The asterisks serve two related purposes. If the text is being chanted, the asterisk signals where to switch to the second line of music. If reading responsively, it signals a half verse break.
