I have been drawing small faces of Christ for a collage. Not knowing what Jesus Christ looked like, let along his various human expressions, I decided to ad-lib the compositions from face to face. Having all these faces of Christ in the one artwork, I hoping to convey the message of not relying on any particular identity, and though he is the Son of God he was also 'seen' as a normal human being.

Here is my first Face of Christ # 1

One thing I'm pretty sure of is that Our Lord is not likely to have been fair skinned and blue eyed as painted in many portraits. It's more probable that He resembled present day Palestinians.

Yes, more than likely to be so.
Does my drawing depict a fair skinned blue eyed person?

Just to let you know, it's okay to be honest.

My preference is No3. As a hard-working Jewish carpenter He would have been unkempt viewing personal grooming as the domain of the Roman over-lords.

Also I would like to see your interpretation of His Blessed Mother and foster father

That would be interesting, yet I think I would just be drawing another person of no particular emphasis. Much like the faces of Christ, they are what they are as they come out. I may pre-choose a particular emotion before starting to draw. I am trying to say, that Christ was human too, including all sorts of expressions. In drawing these faces, I get to realize that Jesus is both everybody and nobody in particular. That he also laughed, cried, got angry, disappointed, shocked by disbelief, etc. He is not just the idealistic serene peaceful person under all conditions.

Same goes with all the interpretations of His Blessed Mother, and the hard working foster father (keeping his mind on duty). I believe that in the past the church disallowed anything not angelic in appearance for Mother Mary. No disciplining the child scenes allowed :o, no no no . So to be honest, I would show Mother Mary not angelic, but somewhat contemplative yet serene. I would like to see Joseph, with the five year old Jesus, both building a model boat, or something like that.

There is a portrait, don't know by whom, of our Blessed Mother spanking the child Jesus.

Yes I have seen that. When it came out it sure made an impact.
It was by Max Ernst (surrealist) 1926. Title: The Virgin Chastises the infant Jesus before Three Witnesses: Andre Breton, Paul Eluard, and the Painter.

John 19:28-30 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty." 29. A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips. 30. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
