I'm trying to dress up as Archbishop Cranmer for Halloween/Reformation Day. Assuming there isn't something blasphemous about imitating vestments, how can I best imitate his style of vestments for as cheap as I can? Any help would be appreciated, as I'm not a vestment master. Plus, this could be a fun discussion.

As a Roman Catholic, Potter might I suggest horns and a tail?

As an aside, was it Cranmer who held his hand into the flames because it had signed his recantation ?

It was, and there is a part of me that would insist on a burned hand as part of the costume. :wicked::cool:
Alas, I have no further insight to give you.

Rochet and chimere with Canterbury cap. Black, not red as current usage tends toward. Possibly an academic hood would have been normal for Cranmer as well. Or perhaps surplice, tippet, and Canterbury cap. Good luck finding an inexpensive Canterbury cap.

I ended up getting something called a "Tudor Scholar's Cap" which will have to do. The rest.... requires some inventful thinking.

It's simply the anniversary of Luther posting the 95 Theses, which also happens to be the same day as Halloween.
