Thought I might start us off on our favorite televised entertainment. I have been recently rewatching The Office, because who doesn't love Micahel Scott right? Also Firefly which is on my shortlist of timeless sci-fi shows. And recently have seen Rogue One. So yeah; I guess I've been a lot into scifi lately... Anyone else?

I enjoyed The Office too - but not the US version, which I have never seen, but the UK version with a Ricky Gervais. I enjoy TV Crime dramas, but the ones I'm into are generally British shows and I doubt my US friends on this forum will have seen or heard of them - Broadchurch, Silent Witness, Lewis. I also enjoy TV quiz show - we have University Challenge in the UK where Uni teams compete against each other and Mastermind where individuals answer specialist subject and general knowledge questions. I've not seen too many movies recently, though am reading the book Lion, a long way home, that has been made into a film.

I have a bit of a short fuse when it comes to TV commercials so we have been watching more Netflix of late. I enjoyed House of Cards, Bloodlines, The Straights, Outlander, and currently watching Suits, and Designated Survivor. At the movies recently Lion, which is based on a true story, and is very moving. We have also watched Broadchurch, Silent Witness, Lewis.

I took my grandson to see the Power Rangers, but please do not ask me to explain it, I have determined it was a foreign language film.

I'm big into The Walking Dead, not for the zombies per se but am fascinated by the breakdown of society. This is indeed how the world may look, with or without zombies, after a cataclysmic event. Colony is also an excellent show

I'm fascinated by The Walking Dead for much the same reasons. I fell away after the first season or two, feeling like there wasn't much progression to the show's story arc. Is it still going strong and are they getting somewhere?

I recently bindge watched Black Mirror on Netflix, very interesting! I really enjoyed Stranger Things with my kids. My wife and I just started watching The Hollow Crown (a BBC version of Shakespeare's plays of the kings of England). I am also gutting it through the current Doctor Who (least favorite one). Also enjoy Victoria, Vikings, and started rewatching Vicar of Dibley. I'm heart hurt that Grinder and Red Eye went off the air.

As for movies, I was absolutely blown away by Hacksaw Ridge recently. Looking forward to the new Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and theres talk of Mel Gibson doing a sequal to the Passion about Christ's Resurrection.

I also love, love, love TCM (Turner Classic Movies) I live on that channel.

And as a lawyer, my favorite legal movies are My Cousin Vinny, Legally Blonde, and Intolereable Cruelty...all of which were surprisingly accurate. I LOATHE Law and Order and blame it for so many unreasonable expectations by jurors, who expect nothing less than a courtroom confession and a 30 minute trial every time. That's not how it works folks.

The People vs OJ Simpson was VERY good.

I've been watching the new season of Bosch on Amazon Prime this weekend. Highly recommended if you like action/gritty crime shows.

My boys (now nearly 17 and nearly 21) were into Power Rangers when they were young. I sympathise - I didn't understand what it was all about either!

Having finished the book Lion I may go and watch the film.

Try and get back into it. The plot becomes more interesting as time progresses

I too thoroughly enjoyed Black Mirror. I found the one where the murderess is tormented for entertainments sake the most disturbing. Re Peter Capaldis Dr Who, initially I was very resistant to him, feeling him far too old for role. However Capaldis grown on me and I now see him an excellent actor. McGann, worst Doctor ever. OMG I'm a "Whovian

    Thanks, maybe I will!

What do you guys think of horror and disturbing movies? I personally cannot stand or see why anybody would watch them...
(Note, The Walking Dead doesn't qualify as horror for me, I mean something like The Human Centipede or disgusting things like that)

Gore for its own sake serves no purpose other than to stimulate the appetite of the voyeur

As for sitcoms, I feel like the modern ones are somewhat lacking. Who else is missing the golden oldies like Family Matters and Seinfeld?

I'd love to fully join this conversation, but I don't own a television. I do download some series and watch them on my computer. My favourite medium is the audiobook. I had a glorious summer two years ago of sitting outdoors and listening to Trollope, specifically his Barchester series, which is still pertinent to Anglicanism ;) and the Palliser books, all read by the incomparable Simon Vance. Then I was sad because I knew it would be hard to find anything quite as good. Recently I finished the His Dark Materials trilogy, read by the author, Philip Pullman, and a cast of characters. Pullman has one of those voices you can listen to for hours and hours. The TV series of the trilogy is in production, so I hope it's faithful to the books.

But, not to sidetrack, I do love video series, and my all-time faves are probably I Claudius and Rome. Still waiting for the proposed follow up to Rome, set in the adulthood of Octavian. I have a longterm watching project, of viewing the 160+ episodes of the Mahabharata, which was shown on TV in India a few years ago. Each episode is about 20 minutes long, and I had to search around for the subtitles, but it was well worth it.

What's everyone's favorite movie or show that people have been watching lately?

Also, what does everyone think of Game of Thrones? It has some good moments and some vile moments... I can't decide!

I've never seen a single episode of Game of Thrones. I've recently enjoyed two American dramas and await their next series, Colony and Handmaids Tale. The ideas about dystopia intrigue me

Watching Bob's Burgers has become a family activity since it first premiered. As for Game of Thrones, I'm in the 1% of people that haven't watched a single episode.
