"Neither dare one agree with catholic bishops if by chance they err in anything, but the result that their opinion is against the canonical Scriptures of God." --St. Augustine (De unitate ecclesiae, chp. 10)

It is sad for all of us. I wonder if the enemy is laughing at us right now?

There was conflict, even among the apostles. This is not desirable but reflects our human condition.

Also, we all see through a glass, darkly. I wish we could keep that in mind.

That is one reason I do not call others atheists if they disagree with me -- as I have been called by one person here for holding to women's ordination.

Very good point Celtic1. No less than the venerable Sts. Nicholas and Athanasius were reduced to a slap fight at the Council of Nice, or so it is told. Anytime you get a group of theologians, even of the armchair variety like ourselves, it's probably a good bet that we won't all be singing Kumbayah. At least at this council, let's hope that the "heretics" won't be exiled to Illyricum. ;)

Correctomundo - but I think when things slip into insults and personal attacks things have gone way too far...
