Hello all Currently, i'm only a new Anglican and I have much to learn about it. I've come over from the Catholic Church for a couple of reasons. Though I won't go into them unless asked. I have many opinions of my own and can tend to be quite liberal, but can be quite the traditionalist when it comes to some topics. Anyway, just thought i'd say hi!
Yeah sure. I was born into a Catholic family, though it's a bit mixed up really. My dad was baptised Church of England but is now an atheist. My Mom is an Agnostic Catholic, she can't get her head around the Virgin Birth. My brother was baptised Catholic but is atheist. I'm really the only religious one to come from my family. I used to go Church with my school or my Grandad. I really loved the Catholic church but there were just things I could not accept and did not believe in. My reasons are: 1) Papal infallibility (I know there is a council, but the actual teaching I can't agree with). 2) Homosexuality - I cannot accept that homosexuals are disordered. I firmly believe that God made us the way we are for a reason. (I'm a gay man). 3) Women priests - I think the Catholic Church is still in the dark ages regarding women. I don't like the idea of an entirely male dominated religion. 4) Priestly celibacy 5) Corruption - Including Child abuse and the cover ups. 6) Contraception - I think their view on contraception has to be absolutely silly. These are the only ones I can think of at the moment
Welcome! I agree with most of your reasons, except for these two: While I don't know how much we'll be able to debate the first of the reasons (given that your personal identity is mixed in with it), I have a feeling we'll have lively debates on the second one.
Paha, I look forward to these debates You can still give me your opinion on homosexuality, though I should warn you, if your opinion is too wacky, I might get a bit miffed But i'm sure it won't be.
