These are all very beautiful, while I cannot paint or draw that well, my talent lies in words as I write poetry, a lot of it with a Christian/Inspirational theme. There was an older lady at my church who used to sing in the choir, she had a beautiful soprano voice, and due to health reasons she had to give up singing in the choir and was very upset. I said to her "Edith God made some people to create and He made some people to appreciate the works of the creators. For years you have created beautiful music to bless the church services, now God is telling you it is time to appreciate the gifts of others." She looked at me and said "Laura I never thought of it that way, but you are right and until her death she was an appreciator of the choir and those who brought special music to the services. In the case of drawing and painting you all are creators and I am but a lowly although enthusiastic appreciator of your works. Please keep sharing them.

Thanks @Laura S. for the lovely and thought provoking story. i will treasure that in my heart.

There was a servant to the master of a large property owner who cooked and prepared the food. Every day the servant would take two buckets to the stream to gather fresh water for the house. But one bucket always had a leak and by the time the servant got back to the house, the bucket was almost empty. One day the leaky bucket complained about itself worthlessness to service to the master. The servant said "You know those beautiful flowers the master enjoys so much on the dining table. Well they come from the side of the path that you have watered on the way back from the stream."

    Hi Neminem

I'm glad you have started this... I have never really produced Christian art as such but have encountered some really fine people over the years whose paintings are all bound up with their journey with Jesus Christ..

I now gravitate towards Eastern Orthodox iconography as far as the visual expression of faith is concerned, and find it now plays a major part in what passes for my "observance" or practice. Recently I began mounting reproductions (I have thought about learning to paint or "write" icons too but my circumstances don't allow it at the moment) onto reclaimed wood, and am trying to educate myself a bit around the theology and different local traditions of iconography..with a strong leaning towards Ethiopia and its vibrant simpler style.

Basically I'm wondering whether you would be happy for me to post some images of my craftings.. Of course they are not original, but I do feel a depth of involvement and purpose when I do the work. I'm also keen to make the images and the thinking around them a bit more accessible, and to learn from others what their responses and feelings are to this language of heavenly beauty..

    With thanks and best wishes,

    Anthony

    Hi Aidan,

    Very kind of you!

Some examples are on http://www.etsy.com/shop/pricelessimagery and the image library is growing, so there should be new listings before long.. Looking into getting a website going.

How kind..it doesn't often feel like a prayer..maybe this one did.. Certainly Andrei Rublev must have prayed much to be so in-spired. Actually he is venerated as a Saint, and the icon to him has him holding this image which, I think it's true to say, continues to have an inestimable impact on the world. Thx Aidan.
